Google is streamlining the process of watching YouTube Shorts on its TV devices without the need to open the YouTube app. A new “Short videos for you” row featuring a personalized video feed will soon appear on the Google TV homepage. This update is expected to roll out to Google TV devices in the US during the summer, though an exact date is not specified. Initially, the feature will showcase YouTube Shorts, but support for other vertical video services like TikTok and Instagram’s Reels may follow.
The short video row announcement coincided with other Google TV updates, including the integration of Google’s Nano Banana generative AI image model and Veo video generator via the Gemini tab. Google Photos is getting new Search and Remix features, enabling users to search photos with voice commands and convert them into different styles like watercolor or oil paintings.
These updates are currently limited to Gemini-enabled devices in the US, but a Dynamic Slideshow feature, allowing any Google Photos album to be displayed as a screensaver on idle TVs, will be available globally.
