Google Introduces Googlebooks: A New Line of AI-Native Laptops

1 Min Read

Google has introduced a new line of laptops called Googlebooks, centered around its advanced AI models, Gemini. Collaborating with partners like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo, these laptops are tailored to offer personalized AI assistance. Set to launch in the fall, Googlebooks features “Magic Pointer,” an AI-driven cursor that provides contextual suggestions, such as scheduling meetings or visualizing images together. Alexander Kuscher of Google mentioned that the pointer is designed to be smart, offering relevant actions without being intrusive.

These laptops are compatible with Android phones, enabling users to seamlessly access phone apps and files on their Googlebook. The “Create your Widget” feature lets users design custom widgets using Gemini, integrating information from the web and Google apps for a personalized dashboard. Googlebooks represent a shift from Chromebooks, signaling a move away from ChromeOS to a new Android-based operating system with built-in AI. This change shows Google’s strategic response to Microsoft’s AI-native computers. Current Chromebooks will still receive support, and many can transition to this new experience.
