As the 2026 Formula 1 season starts in Miami, Eddy Cue, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Services and Health, has shared details about the company’s increasing engagement in the sport. Cue emphasized John Ternus’s enthusiasm for racing, the next CEO of Apple, suggesting this may enhance Apple’s ties with Formula 1.
At the Miami Grand Prix, Cue expressed hope for a follow-up to “F1: The Movie,” after producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed that the initiative is officially in motion. Cue’s remarks followed a teasing of the possible sequel alongside F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali at an Apple TV press event.
Additionally, Cue spoke about Apple’s goals to boost its streaming rights for F1 races worldwide, underlining the significance of the U.S. market. He mentioned, “The sport doesn’t get licensed on a global basis… starting in the U.S., which is a huge market for us, and being able to build from there, is definitely the right way to do it.”
Moreover, Cue pointed out Ternus’s strong passion for motorsports, revealing that he engages in amateur racing and drives a Porsche. Cue reassured fans that Ternus would be more visible at F1 events than Tim Cook, reinforcing Apple’s dedication to the sport.
Apple has been proactively investing in the Miami Grand Prix, improving the experience with a unique 3D feature in Apple Maps and a major website takeover. For U.S. fans, the race can be watched on Apple TV, with the main event set for May 3 at 4 p.m. ET, alongside qualifying rounds the prior day.
Apple TV, available for $12.99 per month, presents an array of popular shows and films, further strengthening Apple’s foothold in the entertainment industry.
