Google’s AI Enables Voice Interaction with Your Gmail Inbox

2 Min Read

Google continues to enhance Gmail with AI features. Recently, it announced the expansion of its “AI Inbox” for Gmail by adding conversational AI. This feature, called Gmail Live, allows users to ask questions about their inbox content instead of using search terms, helping to quickly locate information. Users can inquire about things like flight details, appointments, or event specifics. Previously, finding such information required typing in search terms, which wasn’t always effective. Gmail Live can handle naturally phrased questions and follow-up queries, demonstrating AI’s practical use in everyday tasks, as explained by Devanshi Bhandari, the product lead for Gmail. This initiative highlights Google’s commitment to integrating AI into their products, showing tangible benefits for end-users. During a demonstration, the tool answered questions about school events and travel plans, showcasing its ability to understand nuance and context. Additionally, similar technology is being added to Google Keep. Gmail Live complements traditional search rather than replacing it, acknowledging mixed responses to AI-only features from other products like Google Photos. Gmail is also receiving updates like ready-to-send drafts and improved task management. The AI Inbox, initially available to Google AI Ultra subscribers, will soon be accessible to Pro and Plus subscribers. Gmail Live will launch later this summer, starting with Google AI Ultra users.
