Codex is moving to mobile. The coding tool, launched by OpenAI around a year ago, is now integrated into the ChatGPT app, enabling users to manage their development workflows remotely.
The new update lets users view their Codex live environments on any device where it is running. Announced Thursday, the update is in preview and available for all plans on iOS and Android.
“This is more than remotely controlling a task or dispatching new tasks to your computer,” OpenAI said. “You can work across all threads, review outputs, approve commands, change models, or start new tasks from your phone.”
Last month, OpenAI enabled Codex to run in the background on desktops, allowing it to handle tasks autonomously. Earlier, the company introduced a Chrome extension for the agent to work in live browser sessions.
In February, Anthropic launched a similar feature, Remote Control, to allow users to monitor Claude Code’s work remotely.
The series of feature releases from OpenAI and Anthropic highlights the intense competition over which coding tool will be most used. Over the past year, Anthropic’s Claude Code has gained popularity among businesses and tech professionals, though both tools continue to be widely used.
